A standard for security management systems, as Jebel Ali the Port the flagship of Global Marine Terminal Operator DP World became the first port in the Middle East Region to attain the United Nations department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) Certificate. DP World Jebel Ali has also been certified under the autonomously audited ISO 28000 security management standard, which was being turned out throughout the DP World’s global network
A team of UNDSS experts visited the Jebel Ali for a scrutiny and assessed the security measures implemented by DP World, UAE Region, specifically focusing on emergency retort plans, security alertness for staff, security consultation for security personnel and documentation measures. Two senior officers, Tamer Hammouda, Security Advisor and Mosa Elayan, Security Associate from UNDSS in the presence of DP World UAE Region officials from the security departments, handed over the certificate to Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region
The President quoted that it is DP World’s obligation to ensure the safety and security of the people, customers and assert to preserve the national interest of the UAE. He also took this opportunity and further added that it was a great honour an achievement to receive the certificate from UNDSS and ensured to all the stakeholders that Jebel Ali will continue to remain the safest port in the world.
Tamer Hammouda, Security Advisor, UNDSS on congratulating DP World commented that it had been a big challenge for any association and predominantly so for the regional logistics hub like Jebel Ali with all the biggest of complications. DP World was a deserving candidate because the high levels of safety and security implemented in at Jebel Ali exceeded the standards set by UNDSS in major areas.
Executive Director of Health, Safety, Environment of DP World, UAE Region, Mr. Saeed Suhail exclaimed that the UNDSS certificate was an important point of reference exercise carried out to appraise the security watchfulness against global standards and industry best practices. The assurance to make available a secured place of work was an enduring process, which was balanced by persistent enhancement of security performance that was consistent with DP World’s security management standards.
DP World has also been certified as the only international port operator to have achieved recognition as a partner in the Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism (C-TPAT) initiative by US Customs and Border Patrol.
The UNDSS has been supervising the UN’s security management system and its work included setting the standards for best practice security policies and operational procurement systems. Thus UNDSS with it standards has acquired Jebel Ali for the best of its safety and security.
