Due to limited supply of natural gas in Trinidad and Tobago methanol production has been severely affected. Supply shortage has reached to 30% affecting the overall production rate. Trinidad and Tobago hosts more than 6 million mt/year of methanol production, nearly 14% of global production.
There are two Methanol plants operating under Methanex having the total production capacity of more than 2 million mt/year. According to Trinidad government there is no solution for this problem in current position.
