A severe cyclone is close to making landfall Friday in India's eastern state of Odisha, home to Indian Oil Corporation's Paradip refinery, as well as the ports of Dhamra, Gopalpur and Paradip. Cyclone Fani is expected to generate wind speeds of up to 170-180 km/hour, the state-run India Meteorological Department said, adding that it would make landfall on Friday. Early Friday, the cyclone lay centred about 65 km southeast of Gopalpur. Paradip is the largest refinery in state-run IOC's portfolio of 11 refineries. It can process 100% high sulfur crude oil to produce products such as LPG, propylene, Euro IV and V-compliant gasoline, diesel, kerosene, aviation fuel and petroleum coke.So far, there are no reports of the refinery being taken offline. Paradip was reported to be operating normally. Some operations at ports in Odisha have been temporarily suspended. But we are waiting for more details.
