Indian government initiates antidumping investigation against imports of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)

The Indian government has initiated anti-dumping investigation into a whole range of imported products to protect its local producers and domestic economy which have been battered by the coronavirus pandemic, market sources said.Indian authorities initiated an anti-dumping investigation into NBR from China, the European Union, Japan and Russia.“There was no demand in April due to the lockdown. Several automakers in India reported zero car sales in April,” a local trader said.India’s local NBR producer, Apcotex, petitioned for the investigation and the initiation notification by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry was dated 26 May. Lockdowns, border closures, travel bans and transport restrictions have disrupted supply and crippled demand, with the automotive industry severely hit due to the fallout from the pandemic. NBR is used in a wide of applications including oil seals, gaskets, grommets, and transmission belts in the automotive industry as well as rice rollers in the agricultural sector.
