Indian Oil Corporation to expand its Paniapt refinery in near future. The company is planning to expand its capacity by 34% to 20.2 million tonne by 2020. This expansion plan is likely to take five years to complete with an overall investment of Rs.15000 crore.
Panipat refinery was established in 1998 with an initial capacity of 6 million tonne per annum. First expansion was carried out in 2006 with an increase of 6 mln tonne per annum in its existing capacity. In 2010 another 3 mln tonne was added making an overall capacity to 12 million tonne per annum.
