China based CNOOC Zhongjie has shut down its MEK unit for maintenance turnaround. Many other small units of MEK based in China have been shutdown for maintenance. The other firm Fushun PetroChina will shut down its unit as its will change the catalyst in its plant.
The other reason for this shutdown as firms has to follow the norm of Chinese government which is “blue-sky policy” in China. In accordance with the blue-sky policy in China, MEK plants would have to reduce their operating rates; and some smaller plants would even shut during the winter period because of the regulation on coal emissions. Coal is one of the raw materials in producing MEK.
