Formosa Chemicals & Fiber Corp has shut down its nylon unit permanently based at Changgua in Taiwan. The unit failed to obtain an operating license from the government due to issues over air pollution. Earlier the unit was to shut down in early week of October due to local government’s opposition. Changhua can produce 5,000 mt/day of rayon staple fiber and an equivalent amount of nylon fiber. The shutdown of one of its nylon plants would reduce the company's demand for caprolactam, a raw material used to produce nylon, amid weak demand.
