The state government of Kerala is planning to set up Petrochemical Park in Kochi. The park will be set near to BPCL refinery in Kochi in order to capitalize the potential of downstream products in the petrochemical industries. The expansion of the refining capacity of BPCL-KRL from 9.5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 15.5 MMTPA will be completed during 2016 which will result in production of 5,00,000 TPA propylene. Considering the scope of new downstream petrochemical industries with feedstock from BPCL, KSIDC will set up a Petrochemical Park adjoining the BPCL refinery.
