An explosion occurred in China based Yangzi Petrochemicals plant in Nanjing. The explosion occurred in wee morning hours. The blast was huge and firemen toiled hard to control the fire. The plant in which mishap took place was for MEG production.
Yangzi Petrochemical is one of the renowned petrochemical companies in China. It is able to refine 900 mt of crude oil annually and has the production capacity to produce 650,000 mt/ year of ethylene and 1.4 million mt/year of aromatics. Other than these products company also manufactures 1.05 million mt/year of purified Terephthalic acid (PTA) and 300,000 mt/year of ethylene glycol.
