The anti-dumping duty has been imposed on imports of polytetrafluoroethylene imports from China and India by The US Department of Commerce. "Commerce preliminarily determined that exporters from China and India have sold PTFE resin in the United States at 69.34% to 208.16% and 18.49% less than fair value, respectively," the department said. Taiwanese major petrochemical producer Formosa Chemicals and Fibre Corp (FCFC) has shut down its Phenol-Acetone plant at full capacity rates.  According to the sources, the units will remain off-stream for around 5-6 weeks. Methanex has acquired land for a third methanol plant in Geismar, adjacent to its two existing methanol plants there. Methanex is still probably a year away from making a final investment decision. It would take 9-12 months to get a FID on the project and that there would be no significant capital spent on the project until late 2019 or 2020. With growing tension between US and China, the Chinese government has listed out 125 products under the slab of tax of 25% of tariffs on US import. The list included US ACN as well. The government has not specified the implementation date for this policy yet. China imports around 20% of its requirement of ACN from US. The increased import duty will now cut down their imports.
