Shell Chemicals has planned to idle its two Acetone units in 2018 based at US. The decision has been taken in order to tighten the supply of Acetone. The company has further plans to idle its Phenol 3 plant in Deer Park in Texas in mid of January 2018. The plant has Acetone capacity of 1,44,000 tonnes/year. Supply in the tightening of Acetone will compel users to import it from Asian countries where easy supply is available. ..

Qilu Petrochemicals shut down its ACN unit in the second week of July. The unit continues to remain off-stream and is uncertain about its restart date. Earlier the unit was shut down for maintenance but could not resume its production as strict environmental inspections have been major concern. Iran is planning establish a standalone shipping line to handle its petrochemical exports. Petrochemical holdings should join forces to form a shipping company for petrochemicals. China based private firm Hengyi Group has started a trading office in Singapore to buy crude and trade oil products from its $3.4 billion Brunei project, company officials said on Monday. The office will also handle third-party trading. The on-going investigation of anti-dumping duty on Styrene monomer imports from South Korea, Taiwan and US has delayed the future contract for 2018. Earlier the investigation was launched in June 2017 and was likely to last for one year. It may be extended for six more months.
