Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is in plan to set up a Rs. 40,000-crore petrochemicals plant at Rasayani in Raigad District of Maharashtra to manufacture polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene. The company also plans to shift its LPG bottling plant, storage facilities and bitumen plant to Rasayani, 60 km away from its Mumbai plant. As per report, R. Iran’s new Marjan Petrochemical Company is ramping up operations at its new Methanol unit. The unit has the production capacity of 1.6 mln mt/year. Unit will be based at Aasaluyeh in Iran.  The unit currently opeartes at around 50-60 % of its capacity. India is one of the major purchaser of Methanol from Marjan Petrochemcial. PTT Global Chemical has shut down its steam cracker for maintenance turnaround. The unit was shut down in the first week of September and is likely to remain off-stream for around one month. The unit may resume its production in the next month. State owned company Indian Oil Corp (IOC) is planning to start its MEG in Odisha by 2021. The plant will be located at IOC’s petrochemical complex linked to its 15m tonne/year Paradip refinery. Methanex Corp has given a contract to Johnson Matthey PLC to provide its technology to Methanex’s proposed new 1.8m tonne/year methanol plant be built adjacent to Methanex’s existing methanol plants in Geismar, La. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani launched new projects to produce methanol, urea and ammonia in the southern city of Assalouyeh, will cost 1.85 billion U.S. dollars. VAM prices in Southeast Asia and India for September shipments remained low on high competition amongst suppliers due to increasing output in China and scrawny demand in the domestic market.
