New process which could produce methanol directly from methane considered a low-cost and environment friendly process. The direct oxidation of methane -- found in natural gas -- into methanol at low temperatures has long been a holy grail. Now, researchers have found a breakthrough way to accomplish the feat using a heterogeneous catalyst and cheap molecular oxygen. The process is under research and if successful then could be a major supporter in reducing the pollution along with hogher production pf methanol.
