Indian cosmetics industry, as reported earlier has been flourishing and growing at an exponential rate. More and more giants are seeing potential in Indian Market and are making entry or collaborating with local manufacturers to make an entry.
Overall, all the steps taken so far has helped the Indian Cosmetic Industry to grow. From teenagers to aged people every one of them is a user of Cosmetics at different levels. Even it does not matter if you are a man or women. Cosmetic Industry caters to all the levels of spending a person can afford. One of the growth spectrums is increasing use of cosmetic by men. According to reports Male-grooming is now a Rs. 38,000 crore market. This sector clocked in a growth of 21% and is expected to reach Rs. 5270 crore in the next three years.
Indian Cosmetic industry is becoming famous for becoming the world wide hub for cheap cosmetic surgeries. People from the western countries find India a hot destination for such surgeries, globalization, the rupee’s stand on the global level and the fact that the patients are not treated as consumers or a commodity to deal in. this is a complete shift from the earlier way of working as in the past people from poorer countries used to travel to richer countries for high quality services.
Another segment of growth in the industry is the ayurvedic products. India is known for the knowledge for the use of herbs and plants and other natural substances to increase beauty and health. This side of cosmetics is environmentally safe and companies view such products with the view point of sustainability.
India has banned the clinical trial testing of cosmetics on animals. India is also the first country in South Asia to take such a step. Any company which wants to test its product will have to go through a pre-defined procedure and will have to take permission from the Central Drug Standards Control. This is India’s step towards becoming Cruelty Free.
