With a ban on log exports set this year, Indian buyers of Burmese Gurjan and Teak woods are looking to open timber processing facilities inside Burma.

A new law is coming into force from 1st April, 2014, will prohibit the export of all tree logs, but it will not stop firms from processing timber in the country. A number of Indian Laminate companies were given licenses by the Myanmar Investment commission to build wood processing factories in the country.

India is country with population crossing 1.5 billion. The needs are continually increasing where as the resources are steadily decreasing. The growing purchase capacity of Indian consumers is leading to huge demand for house hold materials. Growth in the small towns will provide big support to small and medium level Laminate producers. The variety of designs and affordable budget range is fueling Laminate demand in retail sector.

As per the report, after the two years of slowdown scenario for plywood makers and as per Indian demand cycle of building materials, this year will be better in all respect for the ply trade. This fiscal may bring addition to capacity by approx 15 lac sheets per months because of visible hope among existing mid segment players and few new entrants. Laminate producers will gain due to wider reach of distribution channels to remote areas.
