The laminate industry entered in 1963-64 by Formica International Company in India. After that this industry has grown and diversified quickly. The India furniture industry is of Rs 36000cr and it is highly unorganised (85% of the total market). India is ranked among the top 14 furniture market in the world.

Lifestyle is changing due to nuclear household and home owner are focus on interior decoration. The total size of the Indian Interior Infrastructure Industry is around Rs 13,000cr, and is growing at around 8-9% annually, with laminates having a share of around Rs 4000cr which is around 50% of total organized market. IMF declared the growth of 6.9% for India in 2012 which was 7.2% in 2011 and 10.6% in 2010. According to Delhi association, the demand for decorative laminate is said to be growing at around 15% every year in domestic market.
The laminates industry in India has a potential market ahead with the demand for laminates increasing day by day. The laminate industry is running with steady phase right now in India. The industry is affected by increasing price of raw material. In the beginning of September manufacturers have decided to increase the price for laminates from the first week of October but with rupee appreciation and some stability in rupee compelled them to delay this decision. On other side according to traders, demand in the laminate sector has increased compared to the past few months but not as per expectations as Diwali is just around the corner in India. Also some new manufacturing companies of laminates are planning to enter in Indian market.
