Plastic Industry Round Up (13/1/14 to 18/1/14)

All India Plastic Manufacturer Association (AIPMA) demanded better government support to sustain gain for the plastic industry. They said that current infrastructure is not enough for sustaining the growth. Chairman of Association said that industry need better infrastructure and consistency in policies across all state in the country. He added that major share of the industry is of SMEs and they are facing the problem of working capital so government needs to help them.

Increase in demand from end user industries like automobile, retail and infrastructure has fueled the growth of this industry. Industry sources said that demand in the industry is good for the current week, and expected to remain as it is for near future. A Taiwan based firm is setting up its plant in India for the plastic production due to good demand in Indian market. Company sources said that company will invest around 40 Crore rupees and plant will be located in Pune. Recent news said that an Indian firm is planning to set up a plastic packaging factory in Bahrain. Sources close to company informed that company’s investment is expected to reach $10 million by 2015.

An International Center for Advancement of Manufacturing Technology in Plastic industry has been started by the UNIDO (United Nation’s industrial Development Organization) in Bangalore. This project will focus on small and medium sized companies who need to be technologically competitive and cost effective. The project will help these firms to know how to deal with problems like low productivity, low adoption of advancement manufacturing technology, shortage of quality manpower, process capability and weak technology innovation by suggesting wide range of interventions and initiatives. UNIDO will also help small firms in finding right consultant for their project or business besides improving productivity and efficiency. Demand in this sector remained stable for the current week.
