Indian Rubber industry has got the ample existence in the Asian subcontinent. India ranks second in the world in the Natural rubber production after Vietnam. Other than natural rubber the other categories of rubber has got immense application. Recently a delegation from Philippines visited India. The members visited Rubber Research institute of India and All Indian Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA). Philippines ranks fifth in the category of rubber production. Nation is trying hard and learning the Indian manufacturing practices and is focusing on more domestic rubber manufacturing along with improving the quality.
One of the leading business groups of our country Reliance (RIL), will enter joint venture with Russia and will start the production of Butyl rubber in India. The production unit will be installed at Jamnagar, Gujarat. At present country imports $360 million of synthetic butyl rubber. The major application of this category of rubber is in making of tyres.
Reliance will form joint venture with Russian petrochemical major company SIBUR. The company holds 75:25 of partnership with Russian firm. According to SIBUR instigation of this project will diminish the import of butyl rubber for India. At present India imports around 60,000 tonnes per annum and the production capacity of this plant is 1,00,000 tonnes thus feeding up the complete production.
SIBUR is world leader in terms of rubber manufacturing in the global market. According to the company, very few companies use this technology for the manufacturing of butyl rubber. This unique polymerization technique will be used at Jamnagar plant which will maintain the consistency and the quality of product. With increase in the production of cars and other vehicles will instigate for more demand of butyl rubber. The demand will further grow as personal incomes are increasing along with purchasing capacity of the population. Once the demand is satisfied in the domestic markets the Reliance SIBUR Elastomers may export its remaining output to neighboring countries.
