The textile sector has been focusing on the environmental methods of manufacturing. The leading textile manufacturers of India have been participating in the project called Sustainable Water Resources (SWAR) to improve efficiency and to cut down the chemical use in the factories. To improve the industry functions Indian government has come up with several major amendments. Government has been focusing on 100 percent FDI in the Indian textile sector. Duty free entitlement along with garment export promotion policies for the textiles sector has been launched. This will enable to generate an additional RMG exports estimates at Rs 10,000 crore. Again the government has proposed to extend 24/7 customs clearance facility at 13 airports and 14 seaports resulting in faster clearance of import and export cargo.
Further government has planned to drop the duty on branding items in order to provide relief to the entire value chain. Initiatives include joining hands with ecommerce retail giants and to provide an open platform handloom weavers to sell their product online. The foundation stone of the Trade Facilitation Centre and Craft Museum was laid by the Prime minister of India.
Indian corporate sector has also started taking interest in the development of Textile industry. One of the leading textile and fabric manufacturing group Welspun has come up with new spinning facility at Anjar, Gujarat. The expansion project is in lines with Government of Gujarat policy of ‘Farm-Factory-Fabric -Fashion-Foreign’ Textile policy.
